I wondered about this for some time. Other magazines are much the same. Then I finally twigged: all these magazines carry advertising for the products they review. They are not going to say the product is poor if they want to make money from the ads.
I'd agree with using "Which" for unbiased reviews, but as stated above you can't beat asking for people's personal experience. Even with a new product, people usually have strong opinions about the manufacturer.
There was a program on recently,Alex corran (contain?) Journalist, where he discovered fake reviews can be purchased for pennies. Hubby found one yesterday for a Chinese restaurant which closed years ago
There is also a site where Which? members can recommend / review local tradespeople. I used a plumber who lived round the corner. He came straight round, fixed the problem and walked home for his tea.
B3, you didn't give him tea 😁. I think word of mouth is helpful. You can see the fake reviews on Amazon, they all have exactly the same wording. I joined my local Neighbourhood watch, they will give recommendations.,a couple of older neighbours got scammed, the usual "your gutters (etc) need replacing". Both paid cash one was taken to the bank.
