Plant id please

Hi , I bought this at a garden centre but have lost the label. I have tried unsuccessfully to propagate it which is annoying as it grows like wildfire when attached to its parent plant!

Any help identifying would be great.

    Solanum crispin glasnevin?

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • I thought it might be that but this is a shrub and not a climber?

Seconded! Apparently they need some heat for cuttings to take and protecting over winter. Be careful what you wish for though unless you want a solanum jungle instead of a garden 😆

I had one for a few years.
It doesn't seem to climb naturally but with some encouragement and tying-in it will.
After 2-3 years it became such a huge mass I removed the whole thing.

Do you mean yours isn't a climber?

Solanum crispum is a climber but you have to tie it in place. I prune mine quite hard to keep it in it's place and I tie it to wires on the fence.

More of a sprawler than a climber. No means of attachment without help, no twining, no tendrils, no clingons

    In the sticks near Peterborough

Mine is definitely a shrub/bush type. Its about 6 feet high and almost as wide.

They do become woody and shrub like after a while.  There's another variety with white flowers, S. laxum Album, which is definitely a climber as it twines.  I removed the blue one after it started to take over and continually drop leaves, but that could have been down to my dry, sandy soil.  They do look good in flower, so enjoy it!

I have one i planted in the corner of 2 stone walls. It must be about 3 or 4 metres tall, and just as wide. Looks stunning in full flower.

I grew it as a shrub, not a climber.
