Eucalyptus

I’ve two Eucalyptus plants in pots. They have thrived during the spring and summer, but now the leaves are turning brown. Any ideas why and how to save them from dying?

Thank you

@Traciefarley , I don't know for certain but would hazard a guess that they needed more watering over the summer, especially if those are metal pots and are now suffering. Not much you can do except keep them well watered unless we get an awful lot of rain and hope they survive. The damaged leaves might well die and drop off but hopefully if the trees survive, they will grow new ones in the spring.

    Good luck

  • Eucalyptus drop their leaves at this time of year as a response to the changing seasons. Follow @Lizzie27 advice and it should be ok.

Of course it depends on what variety of eucalyptus you have.  Not all are winter-hardy in the UK.  Some that are may needed a bit of protection if they are in a metal pot.

It's a guess, but I think yours might be gunnii.

Decide what height and shape you want ultimately and start pruning now to achieve that.  A light trim every year in spring will encourage new growth and the more exciting young leaves.

Eucalyptus trees shed leaves and bark almost continuously.
