It isn't my land Busy-Lizzie, I just use it. I'll ask if I can plant a beech hedge there though and keep them in check.

I can understand how you must be feeling. But your safety and that of users of the lane is important, and the Electricity companies do cut down trees underneath power lines, so they may have been cut down at some point. And lightning strikes must cause similar damage.....I'm trying to make you feel better but probably should shut up!
I sympathise and can only add that hopefully something will fill the void, hazels perhaps, grown to trees, no threat to property or power lines?

Yes I understand and thank you. Hazels are an excellent idea. I'll put that to the forest manager. In fact I have half a dozen plants that I grew from nuts from Mull last year. They are about 16in tall so with guards they could be planted out next spring. Think of the autumn colour they would give.

Lovely colours AuntyRach, the mahonia is way ahead of mine here.
It's been like an early September day here today Uff, really warm sunshine. After weeks of hardly a 24 hour period without rain it's so good to feel the ground firmer beneath my feet. I was even able to get the shredder out for the first time in weeks. 🙂

That’s a lovely photo @Uff, one for the Countryfile calendar!

Yes indeed Woodgreen. More rain this week though.
Thank you Plantminded. In the foreground the ruined church is from the late 1600's I think, I have to research it. Some early gravestones.
