Tiny white flies

Hello all

i seem to have a an infestation (ok, probably a bit dramatic but they do seem to be everywhere) off these tiny little flies that are just floating around all over the place.

Are they something I should be concerned about the best snap I can get of them is all of the ones caught in this spiderweb.

I’ve no idea what I’m doing.

They could be whitefiles, but at this time of year they'll be dying off anyway, so one less thing to worry about :)

Thanks @Pete.8 I’ll try not to worry about them. They do seem to come up in a cloud of them when disturbed which is horrible to walk through! 😬

When I lived with my parents we had a huge beech hedge - just brush by it in summer and there was a could of them, and the sticky gunk they leave on the leaves is horrible too.
They'll be gone in a few weeks due to starvation and cold :)

Didn’t seem to have any issue with them last year, guess it’s something new to learn about 😀

@Latimer, that's a coincidence - we've got them too, I've only noticed them today, had to walk through clouds of them suddenly. It has been hot and sunny today so perhaps that was why.

  • Some soap water sprayed on will get rid of them for a while, but as said if they're outside the weather will see them off soon.
They are feeding the spiders though atm so not so bad!

Soapy water is none selective and will kill any insects it is sprayed on. Will also kill the spiders.
  • Don't spray spiders with soapy water, spray the whitefly.
