Fungus variety and what to do!

Hi, I have really appreciated the help on these forums in the past,  here's another question: I came across this fungus under my clematis, I am guessing it is bad news? What can be done about it?

Those look like the fruit and seeds of Cobaea scandens, a vigorous climber with usually violet-blue bell shaped flowers … there is a white form and a more reddish one too.

Could it be that your clematis is actually a Cobaea ?

I don't think I've ever seen Cobaea seed pods but they look like a seed pod of some sort.

How strange, I've never seen anything like that before.

  • I’ve seen them on Cobaea plants in sun-trap walled gardens and the like. I suspect there are more about after a summer like the one we’ve just had ☀️

  • Just driving to Devon and it suddenly came to me … not Cobaea … it’s the fruit of Akebia quinata …. Google will show you the fruits and the seeds inside.

  • Oh brilliant am so relieved. Usually something that beautiful is deadly! Spotted the foliage in amongst the clematis. Has been here all this time and not noticed it!
