Pruning my bougainvillea

BluesBlues Posts: 49
I put a scrawny bougainvillea outside in a pot last May and it must have liked the hot weather because now it will need pruning before I bring it back into the conservatory.
So would it tolerate pruning like you would a rose or would that be too severe?

I used to spur prune mine just like you would a grape vine.  But if "scrawny, best to prune to a good shape first.
