Late flowering

Has anyone else got confused shrubs? During the blistering heat and the drought it seems that some things went into a sort of summer hibernation and now a dogwood and an osmanthus burkwoodii are flowering happily and this morning I noticed that the Abbotswood potentilla is back from the dead and sporting a rash of white blooms. The conker trees have been dropping leaves for weeks but the shrubs don't seem keen to embrace Autumn. I had given the osmanthus up as a lost cause but it is producing new leaves like a plant possessed.

My hypericum has just got one flower today - they didn't last long in summer, so I hacked some shape into it.
The astrantias came back a couple of weeks ago, and I've got a lot of strawberries coming into flower and fruiting - yippee!!

The rain has brought on a load of new growth by me and that is bringing on some new blooming.

I too have active strawberry plants.....hoping for a few fruits before the weather turns cold.
A doronicum has decided it is spring.

    I have a philadelphus that's blossomed again.
  • I found a flower on one of my apple trees which is loaded with apples.
  • Saw neighbours' Mexican orange flowering again. My potentilla has been flowering almost non-stop. Hollyhocks (grown from seed sown earlier this year) are still flowering too.... and lots of Dahlias that were slow-going now all in buds.

My dahlias ticked over during the summer, due to the small water ration that they were allowed, but since we had some rain they have started to bloom freely. The day after a night of heavy rain, the first for ages, all the plants looked as though they had started to breathe for the first time in weeks. There was a sense of relief and relaxation instead of scrunched up tension. My giant vicious rose hasn't bloomed at all this year, until now. I found one small bloom yesterday and hope for more as the scent is divine. Are we in for an autumn of spring and summer blooms and fruit?
I am trying to replant with drought resistant plants but until they get their roots down even they are subject to damage from the sunshine and heat. Sod's Law will now mean that we get years of cold and torrential downpours and all my lavender, sage and silver leafed beauties will wilt and rot.
