French marigold

Liza6Liza6 Posts: 65
Hi anyone ! My french marigolds have now finished and I've saved the seeds for next year. As there were hundreds I thought I'd just sow a few to see what happened- and to my surprise  they've all started growing. So, could anyone tell me what should I do now? Should I leave in the unheated greenhouse , plant out at this late stage , or just leave as they are outside ? I've got no idea !! Thank you Liza

I would pot them on into small pots so they can grow on and develop a good root system.

If they are tagetes varieties, they are not hardy so you'll need to keep the seedlings in a frost free place for winter and plant them ou next spring after forsts have gone.

If they are calendula marigolds they are hardy and will cope as long as they are in a sunny but sheltered spot for winter.

They are Tagetes so not hardy. Put in 3 inch pots in gh and pray for a mild winter. They will not like cold and wet.

Mine pop up all at this time of year, but do not survive.  They'll come back in the spring.

A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
