Top soil for new lawn

Hi everyone, I have a question, I’m looking to raise my lawn by approx 50-75mm and was wandering if I can lay it straight over my existing grass (which is just weeds, moss, clover…..)? Also, when is the best time of year to do it? I was thinking now then let it settle over the winter then re- level and seed next March.
TIA

I think you need to work out why you have weeds and moss first or they will just reappear a little higher up.
  • Yes if you just go over what's there the coarse grasses in particular will just come through. It may take a year or two but it would gradually spoil your new lawn.
