can someone help with this plant ident please. Multiple stems from the base, growing upright.

    Probably Salix caprea (Goat-Willow).

    That’s my thought too. Salix caprea. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    @palmer_18 I am sure you are aware Salix is the willow family.
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Many thanks to you all. Very helpful and yes aware that this is willow. Just not the first type of willow that comes to one’s mind .
