    To be honest l don't think the two forks back to back thing would work in this case anyway (unless l'm just a wimp. It didn't work for me). A sharp spade or old kitchen knife is ideal. And a beverage of your choice at the end.

    Update:
    I had enough of the soul searching so I gave it a severe haircut with the shears. I hauled it out with the root boulder still intact so I assume I've not killed it.
    There's a rather nice pond shaped hole now or roses have never been grown in the bed🤔
