Rambling Rose Problem

I have planted this Saunders White Rambling rose this year. It has done really well but I have noticed the lower leaves are starting to bronze. I’ve not found anything in “rose problem” searches that look like this. Any advice??

It's what happens in autumn - the leaves will die then drop.
Due to the weather this year it's happening earlier than usual

  • Yup, autumn
  • Really? I thought it was an evergreen variety.

There are a few evergreen (really semi-evergreen) roses, but I don't think Saunders White is one of them - as far as I know
What led you to believe it is?

I can't see anything there that says it's evergreen, apart from this bit- Which refers to the entire genus of roses in general.

    Genus

Rosa can be deciduous or semi-evergreen shrubs or scrambling climbers, with usually thorny stems bearing compound pinnate leaves and solitary or clustered flowers. Flowers may be followed by showy red or purple fruits in some varieties

As far as I know the only semi-evergreen rose is Rosa sempervirens (Evergreen Rose)

  • Well hopefully the two of you are right and it is nothing to worry about.

Me and @Nanny Beach are never wrong 🤣

PS - often cold night temperatures can trigger leaf colour change to reddish hues, but either way it'll fall along with the rest of them as autumn progresses
