Privet hedge - damage

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Its newly planted in August.

@matb202, sorry don't know the answer to that, it does look very manky. Never seen that on my old privet hedge. Looks like some kind of insect/fungus damage. If they were only planted in August, I'd be inclined to go back to the supplier and complain.

Bumping the query up to see if other posters know the answer. Good luck.

  • @matb202 202 I think there is more than one thing going one here. The eaten leaves could be weevil and it looks like some kind of bacterial problem . As the Privet is newly planted it will be under considerable stress at present. Agree with @Lizzie27 I would contact supplier they may also have a problem.

Think the leaves are being chewed by adult vine weevil. That means you may have vine weevil larvae chewing the roots.
The other problem looks fungal or bacterial.
