Stock Dove

Poor quality photo of a Stock Dove, who only recently got used to a gravel patch and feeders, with the old girl on the right who's 10+ years.

    Lovely ... not that many Stock Doves around here nowadays 🕊

    They're on the amber list I think! Apparently they don't visit gardens much, so I feel very honoured!

    We have a number of stock doves that visit here, as we are rural, not in a town, but those look more like wood pigeons - stock doves do not have any white on them, see link.

    Agree with @Buttercupdays . The pigeons do have white collars but the stock doves don't. We have both and the doves take over the barn owl box (never used by owls) whilst the pigeons take up any tree in the garden to nest. The pigeons come down to drink in the water bath for birds but we rarely see the doves doing this.

    There’s two birds in the photo. To the right there’s a wood pigeon with the white collar. Then, behind the green pillar there one that looks very like a Stock dove to me. No white collar. 

    The call would be the defining ID point for me. I can see a white feather on the nearside wing … many birds have an odd white feather (there’s a blackbird with a white tail feather not far from here) … if there’s a white flash on both wings then it’s probably not a Stock Dove

    Stock Doves have a lot of green in the neck area; I can't see any on the two left birds.  The right bird is a Woodpigeon. 
    Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

    I agree. The bird behind the pole is a possible but the tell-tale black marks on the wing are unfortunately not visible on that shot.

    Juvenile Woodpigeons don't have the white patch on neck, so i'm guessing all 3 are Woodpigeons.

    There's only two there, one on the left is a rock! 😄 I left 'Gimpy' the gammy legged pigeon in just because she's awesome. 

    It's definitely not a wood pigeon, I went through loads of photos and info on various bird sites. Here's another pic from a few weeks ago. If it's a youngster, maybe more colour will come through next year, though I thought they'd all pretty much have adult markings by now.
