Improving border soil

I have a border and i've removed the plants to start a new kind of planting.I want to invigorate the soil so i've brought some big bags of well rotted manure and compost, can i dig this in now or is there a time of the year i have to do this.

  • @Voyagerxp I think it is one of those jobs if conditions permit just go for it!
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • All I did last year with a new bed was dig it over well and tip the manure on the top a few inches. Come March next year you will see the improvement once you fork it over. Worked for me and spreading it again over surface and around my plants that have put on a really good show 😃
  • Time the worms have pulled it under the soil all winter, happy days 😊

My soil is pure rubbish. Heavy clay and full of builders crap. Made a difference.
  • Lay it on top of the soil as a mulch, ideally when the soil is moist.  Worms, microorganisms and the weather will break it up and incorporate it into the soil in time for you to plant in spring, without the need to dig!
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
