If I can do the pictures....This deciduous shrub is10 - 15 years old and about 8ft high. It leafs up late and flowers in mid- August through September.

  • It looks like Vitex agnus-castus - there's a white one called 'Silver Spires'.

So it does! Well done. No one has been able to identify in all those years. Many thanks.
  • You're welcome!  Late-flowering shrubs are useful, and Vitex has lovely leaves too.  I must see if I have room for one...   :)

They're lovely.  I have 2 grown from seed from the RHS seed share scheme and now planted in beds plus another still in a pot waiting for a new bed this autumn - if we get any rain.

Yes, I love it. Can't remember where it came from. It's sweetly scented and trouble-free  too.

I had a blue one at my old house. I must find a new one for my new house and find a place for it. I used to prune it quite hard and it grew back well.

    Well done @Liriodendron good spot.

@Posy I don't know if you have a smart phone but there is an app called Plantnet (Android)  Plantnet ( Iphone/ipad) I use it as I haven't a clue what all these plant names are. Its quite accurate.

Thank you @Kili. No, I haven't tried that ap. Mind you, it couldn't have been faster than @Liriodendron!
  • I just thought "That's a pretty shrub!  I ought to recognise it but I don't..." and googled images of "late-flowering shrub with palmate leaves".  And there it was.  I just enjoy a challenge...   :)
