Getting pond ready for winter

Thinking ahead to what needs doing this autumn - any tips for keeping my new mini pond healthy over winter? Assuming I should get rid of the algae! I've brought some bigger baskets for the plants- should I pot then up before winter or leave till spring? Many Thanks

a freeze is the biggest problem.

Pull out the filamentaceous algae by hand.  More oxygenators for next year.

Access in and out for frogs.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.
