Bush marrow

  • Sounds tasty. I suppose using marrow as courgettes is the answer.
  • I usually grow three plants. What works for me is to harvest the main portion of the crop as courgettes, but later in the season I leave the last two or three to grow on into marrows … this does slow down the production of more flowers and fruit, but by then we’ve had so many courgettes that’s just fine by us 😊

Joyce,  I put it down to the dry weather and the heat,  although they love heat I think the combination of the 2 didn’t help.    Mine are developing now after a slow start,  they definitely haven’t been so bad as this year,  in the past.

I would still use a proper marrow seed rather than a courgette,  and I’ve had the same problem with those at times in the past.  I don’t grow them now,  they produce far to many for what we need.

  • Guinness book has two different categories one for biggest
marrow and one for biggest zucchini.
  • The Guinness Book of Records ... that well-known horticultural authority ... obviously they're right and the RHS is wrong ...

  • Dovefromabove  the RHS is wrong according the book

    The Compleat Squash.

the RHS is wrong on many vegetable garden topics.
  • @war garden 572, you will need to enlighten us further, can you reference the particular section in " The Compleat Squash " that states that marrows, courgettes and zucchini are NOT all members of the curcubita pepo family.
I'm sure the RHS would appreciate you letting them know where they are making errors in their information gathering , they'd hate to think that their scientific protocols aren't robust enough!
  • scroggin you misunderstood my post. I said zucchini and
marrow are not same thing. I did not say
    zucchini and
marrow were not curcubita pepo. Also the Compleat
    Squash" describes
    what the difference between zucchini
and marrows. the difference is described in marrow section
    of book.

The Oxford English Dictionary says that compleat is just an archaic spelling of complete. It died out around the end of the eighteenth century.
Maybe brush on English language as well as vegetable growing.

  • I did not write or title book . quoting  that title uses antiquated English term does not negate the facts about marrows and zucchinis. you need to do  better if you plan on refuting what I posted.
