Miracle Grow 4 in 1

edited September 2022 in Problem solving
Hi All,

Im new to this gardening stuff, as im getting older : ).

I have used miracle grow 4 in 1 weed and seed on my grass about 2 months ago but i cant see any change in my grass.

I used 35g per m2 as said in the instructions and watered down 3/4 times a week as we had that crazy heatwave.

But i seem to see no change, would it be best if i forked the  grass first and then re-apply the miracle grow?

Or give it more time to show some results?

Thanks

I usually add some slow-release lawn fertilser in June.  This year there was no rain and so, no response.

Leave alone, it will respond soon.

I agree, the feed and weedkiller will only work while the grass and weeds respectively are actively growing, so unless you had a substantially wetter summer than we did, that'll probably be why it didn't make much/any difference. It's too late in the year now for high-nitrogen spring/summer fertiliser - if you're going to feed it again use a product that's formulated for autumn.

It looks bone dry so, as others have already said, it's absolutely normal that there's no change.  You need to wait for some decent rain now and leave it till spring before applying any further products.

I suggest you raise your mower blades at least one notch so it isn't being cut so short.  Longer blades of grass will make for stronger roots as they can provide more food than scalped grass and will be better able to compete with weeds.

  • Thanks for the advice, Obeli, i will raise my blade by one notch and i wont use any other products for the time being.
We havent had much rain of late and im purchasing a sprinkler.

  • Your lawn doesn’t look too bad, considering this year’s  heat and drought. It looks much better than the neighbouring lawn behind your hedge.  After some meaningful autumn rain your lawn should recover naturally.  I wouldn’t use a sprinkler on an established lawn, only a recently laid one.  The best feed to use in spring is blood fish and bone, it’s organic and slow release without any herbicides which can damage your lawn if applied incorrectly. Apply it in advance of forecast rain at half the rate advised for flower beds.

Thanks Plantminded. Im after a lush green carpet lawn, something that looks very healthy .

I will try and remember that and get some for the spring.

In my view, it is a pity to hide that nice wild hedgerow.  Looks to late now though.
