Can you identify

Hi
I have acquired from a friend what at first was thought to be a blueberry bush (which has been ruled out) but is now thought to be a willow. From the photo can you assist in identifying what this could be from the leaf.

  • Whar colour are the underside of the leaves please. My first thought is Viburnum but not sure. @nutcutlet if you are about any thoughts?

  • Yes, I'm afraid that's a Goat Willow ... Salix caprea ... their fluffy seeds drift on the breeze and take up residence in pots and gardens and make themselves at home.

A good tree for wildlife if you have several acres ... otherwise, not really for most gardens, particularly not if you have drains crossing your land.

Yes, Willow, I would get rid.
I have a couple, but I have lots of space.
How can you lie there and think of England

    Just an update from me.
As advised I decided to move the sapling on to a new home.
I contacted NTS and they recommended I took the sapling to Culzean Castle gardeners.
The guy I spoke at to at Culzean wasn’t convinced it was a Goat Willow and that it could even be a blueberry bush.
They will see how it progresses in their care over next few months.

I will make further visits in next few months to discover what it is and what the next will be.

    Keep you posted 👍

We have several blueberry bushes … none with leaves that look like that … especially with regard to the texture … I’ll be interested to see the fruit … I may be wrong … it has been known 😉

A lot of goat willow does turn up on this forum. It pops up all over the place.

I do not disagree with you both.
I to have blueberry bushes and they do not look anything like that.
I will be surprised if it is not a Goat Willow to be honest.

    The story rumbles on 🤔
