Lawn recovery advice

Some parts of our lawn are growing again after rain but large brown patches of thatch remain. Autumn scarifying advisable? Or lawn rake machine? If so, what afterwards? Very grateful for advice. Mike W

I spoke to my in house lawn expert (OH) who advises scarifying, followed by aeration (using a fork, unless you have a massive lawn).
He then overseeds it, and you can use a top dressing after that apparently.  :)

  • Id definitely recommend a scarifying machine if your lawn is over 50m2. They're way quicker and much more effective than a standard rake. What's more, you can pick them up for a good price (70 quid) and you're likely to use them once or twice a year. So you should get your money worth. It will 'wreck' the lawn though, so I'd suggest overseeding afterwards and using a lawn feed
