Physocarpus opulifolius, Dart's Gold leaf spot or leaves dying?

I planted this Physocarpus opulifolius, 'Dart's Gold just over a year ago and I'm having problems with lots of leaves turning black. I had thought it pretty resistant to most problems. Any ideas please?

@toby.wagstaff101Gpd40ent I am not sure what is wrong. There have been alot of shrubs this year with nasty looking leaves. As your shrub is only a year old it will have been under considerable stress. The gold leaved forms are prone to blackening at the edges if they are in strong sunlight Not enough sun and the leaves are greener.I would continue to water if dry into the autumn.  You may have to check it doesn't dry out in the winter too considering the strange weather patterns. Welcome.

  • Your plant looks as if it’s in quite a tight spot there which will limit the amount of rain that reaches its roots.  In early spring, I’d try to find a more open location for it and enrich the planting area with lots of organic material such as garden compost, farmyard manure or soil improver.  This will help to improve water retention and provide your plant with extra nutrients. You will need to water regularly to help the roots get established if we have another dry spring.
