Low maintenance perennial suggestions

Any suggestions for perennials for a flower bed which are relatively low maintenance?

They need to be quite hardy, and bonus points for evergreens! :)

Whereabouts are you? What kind of soil? How big is the bed and which direction does it face? What colours do you like?😊
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Is your bed sunny or shady and what's your soil like?  Are there any other plants in the bed to be aware of and do you have any height preferences?
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.

Looking at previous posts the OP is in Shetland, and both beds were South facing (assuming these are the places to plant up).

There are loads of hardy perennials that don't need much attention, apart from some deadheading and cutting down old foliage. Most lose their leaves in winter and grow back in spring. You can't go wrong with hardy geraniums, but they aren't all evergreen. Epimediums and Liriope are evergreen but prefer some shade. Some hardy evergreens like erysimum Bowles Mauve and some Agapanthus aren't hardy in very cold wet winters.

You could try mixing with some evergreen flowering shrubs.

I would Google perennials and read about them or buy a good book such as the one by Clare Austin.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
