It's taking over a corner of my garden and seems to spread by runners.

It looks like a creeping potentilla and has buttercup type flowers. I would take it out as it can be a bit rampant.

Cinquefoil. Runs sideways and sends down long thin black taproots that must be dug up if you don't want it to grow back.
