Hollyhocks

Hi I’ve grown a hollyhock this year and so far it’s grown to approximately 14 foot. Does this happen often or have I grown a monster??

  • No you haven't. We have one which was great with pure white flowers, from where no idea, and it is still flowering. It is so big but we love it and hope that the seeds will carry through to next year.

I grew some from seed this year, a couple of them are about 6ft tall and have flower buds. Not sure if they will get chance to flower before the first frosts arrive though.

    Are they annual or perennial?

Mine are supposedly biennial but I cut mine back and it returns happily.
