Autumn sown seeds flowering times

I've seen quite a few people online saying that they're going to sow some of their hardy annuals in autumn and this means that they will flower earlier. Does this also mean that they finish flowering earlier or do just get a longer flowering period?

    I find they finish earlier, but you can sow some in autumn and some in Spring to overcome this.

    Yes,as Posy says, like the Sweet Peas,gives you longer flowering overall

    It only gives you a longer flowering time if the autumn sown ones can get into growth early enough. That depends on your location and climate.
    I rarely bother sowing in autumn because the spring sown ones catch up. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
