Help identify oak disease

The oak tree had to have crown reduction to adjust for the loss of an adjacent tree at the beginning of year. The adjacent tree was another oak which died from root rot.
Following the reduction, the tree came back strong with healthy green leaves all summer.
The first signs of stress started in August with most acorns dropping early.
Now, in September, the leaves have started yellowing/wilting as well as rotting - see pics of fallen leaves freshly picked up. On the new branches, you can see leaves dropping from inside out. This is happening across the tree, too and bottom.
Any idea what disease we may be dealing with and whether there is any remedy?

probably made worse by the drought conditions that have affected many trees across much of the UK.
There’s not much, if anything, to be done about it other than to hope fervently for kinder weather conditions next year.
