Ivy blossom

Have you noticed that the ivy is absolutely smothered in blossom this year?
Good news for whatever goes for it in the night.
In London. Keen but lazy.

It's a good plant because it flowers late, food for pollinators now and berries in January and February for the thrushes when there is little else around.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.

Glad the bees have something to replace the flowers lost in the heatwave

  • Ivy has to be a mature plant in order to flower. I have also noticed the berries on Cotoneaster and Pyracantha are also good.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • There is some old ivy next door in the electricity sub-station. Full of bees.

Mine is just about ready to flower. Lovely when it does. Loads of other flowering plants for the bees/wasps etc just now though.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
