Strange problem with Calathea

Can anyone suggest what might be causing this damage?   The plant seemed perfectly healthy until the last few days.   I've looked with a magnifying glass but cannot see any pests.   Many thanks.

Of course, difficult to say.  But it looks a bit to me like damage caused by overheating.  Perhaps a candle or light bulb.  Maybe sunlight.

Zooming in on the pic it looks like something small has been nibbling away.
Is there a little snail hiding somewhere?
I had something similar on one of my houseplants. I put down a few slug pellets on the compost and I didn't hppen again.

  • Many thanks Bédé and Pete for your suggestions.   I will move plant further away from window (though there was a bamboo blind shielding it from sun) and will also try searching for a snail - maybe come down in the middle of the night with a torch!
