Too much rain for my runner beans....

    How unfortunate.
    I'm sure you can salvage at least some of them though if you wanted to.

    @msqingxiao, was it rain or a gust of wind? It's a hazard with runner beans, they can act like a sail and if the support isn't well secured they can blow over. The plants look ok, can you upright them and give them some support? It often happens when the plants are top heavy.

    We used the same support from last year, so it could have weakened.

    It wasn't very windy here these few days. We had much windier days and it was fine. Think it's the weight of the rain water collected that did it.

    Will give it a go trying to resuscitate it when it stops raining... We've harvested quite a lot of beans already luckily.

    Thanks! We'll soon have some work carried out in the garden and will need to find a new location to grow the runner beans next year. Would love to hear your ideas.

    Remember watching one episode of GW recently and there was this lady setting up a pergola with vertical strings to grow runner beans on and a veg patch below. Seems to work really well.

    Mine revolves around a central (plastic) pole with a wheel on top and, in my case, 12 'Styx', each supporting two plants, feeding off a central reservoir of 'compost'.  Pic attached but more from nickatipixnetdotcom if required.  Main attraction is that mine have already lasted 10 years - and counting, so avoid costly canes.

    @msqingxiao I think if you can prop it up with new canes, you'll get more beans. The plants are not dead.
