I'd be inclined to get rid of the grass altogether @zakzak . It's a tiny area, and looks to be in shade from trees/shrubs close by, and if you're in one of these very dry areas in the south, it's an ongoing problem.
Grass needs moisture and light in order to thrive. Too much sun/shade and long, very dry spells aren't ideal for it.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Do you have a dog urinating on it?

    Nope
  • Have we established whether or not a Weed & Feed type treatment has recently been used on the lawn?

I don't think it was treated accordy before turf was laid. It was a rushed job by the people who did it. As far as I can remember the old so called was removed. The ground re dug over and new laid. The more I look at it. The more I'm inclined to get it all dug out and gravel it. I've just lost both my parents in 5months of each other. And now I don't have any patience with it. My husband isn't a gardening person. Will help but that's it.
  • I’m so sorry for your loss … life’s been very tough on you recently 🤗 ☕️

The problem with gravel is that you can’t ignore it … even gravel has to be weeded because airborne seeds will settle and take root … but if you’re ok with that it’s an option for you.

💡 However there’s a slope isn’t there .., that might cause a difficulty … someone here will have some advice I’m sure. 😊

As I mentioned, we’re going to encourage wildflowers to grow in the grass (it’s pretty thin dry grass at the best of times), so that’s another option … but you do need to find the right sort of flowers for your soil.

Best of luck, whatever you decide to do with it … but there’s no rush … you could ignore it until spring and see what happens. 😊

Dovefromabove thankyou for your kind words.its on a slope because of the manholes the builders placed in the middle of the garden. It's so frustrating. But thanks for your advice greatly appreciated.
