Why is buying seeds & bulbs online so painful and where would you suggest shopping?

  • For a wider than usual variety of bulbs, particularly native species and similar, I can really recomment Broadleigh ... https://broadleighbulbs.co.uk/wp/

  • For seed companies I use DT Browns for most of my veg , they often have £1 a packet deals aswell. Other ones I like are Chilterns and Fothergills. I avoid T&M and Marshalls after poor germination rates compared to others.
  • Premier Seeds .... and Chilterns for anything that Premier don't have.

Peter Nyssen are my go-to for bulbs.
I've always had excellent bulbs from them, and can never resist their sales a bit later in the season.

  • We also have to be aware of the laws of supply and demand ... and the spanner that was thrown in the works by Brexit ... very many of the seed suppliers are supplied by growers on mainland Europe ... and now, with the added paperwork re phytosanitary certificates for some seeds ... and the other logistical problems being caused by Russia ... some seeds may well be in short supply.

  • J Parkers for bulbs and Sarah Raven for flower seeds, not had any problems with either.

Another vote here for Peter Nyssen.  Ordered hundreds of bulbs off them in the last 2 years and always had great results.
  • I’ve had poor germination with several batches of seeds from Sarah Raven. The same varieties bought elsewhere haven’t been a problem … so now I stick to mainly Chilterns.

  • I don't need any bulbs, but if I do i'll know where to go  ;)
Thanks for all the replies, lots of leads to follow up now.  :)

Sarah Raven expensive,  you have to pay for the pretty bag,  I’d rather buy them in a plain  wrapper and have them all germinate.
