Invasive plants

I think this is a Willow growing wild in a friends neighbours garden, will it cause structural damage as it’s close to their house.

    They get HUGE
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • They grow fast too. It will push down the fence and shade all the windows.
    I have several in my garden, but it is way bigger than that one and none of the trees are anywhere near the house.

    I agree - it's a Goat Willow and will push the fence over in time.
    There are many where I walk with my dog - some are about 20ft+ wide and about 10-15ft high.
    In spring the flowers produce thousands of small fluffy seeds that blow around, quickly germinate and grow.
    I don't know if it will cause structural damage to the property. I doubt it, but I don't know.

  • I can see drains nearby ... I would get rid of that willow asap ... the problems they can cause can be very expensive.

    Yes! Willows are incredibly thirsty and will break underground pipes eventually, as well as sapping every ounce of moisture from around the house and garden, and the neighbours'..
