Is the hedge unsalvageable?

Hi,

The hedge in our front garden looks awful. A few weeks ago I removed loads of the dead leaf and some new growth came through, but now it's looking worse than ever. A friend said it could be box blight. Can you help?

Thanks,

Amelia

  • @ameliacargolTinf1ID Looks like Box blight or Box caterpillar. Just type in Box at the top for more information.
People are trying to fight it but others have given up. Euonymous Green Pillar is being grown as a replacement but this can be affected by scale insect the one positive is it does recover. Not the best Welcome to the forum!

    Yes, I agree I'm afraid.
As an alternative to the euonymus, pittosporums are also ideal for hedging.
I have P. Golf Ball which is small and there are others such as P. Tom Thumb and some even smaller ones too. All ideal for hedging and pretty much disease and pest free.
Even the bigger pittosporums can be cut right back to use as a hegde.
