Autumn Sowing, Which Seeds?

There's quite a few flowers I'm looking to grow from seed for next year and where possible, I'd like to sow into trays now(ish) and keep the seedlings in a cold frame over winter. Basically, I don't really have the room to have them all on the go at the same time so if I can get some started now, it'd really help out.

The seeds I'm looking to grow are:

Ammi Visnaga
Aubrieta "Royal Violet"
Calendula "Coffee Cream"
Calendula "Orange Flash"
Daucus Carota "Purple Kisses"
Digitalis Parviflora
Eschscholzia "Milkmaid"
Eschscholzia "Pink Champagne"
Helianthus "Magic Roundabout"
Moluccella Laevis
Phlox "Creme Brulee"
Rudbeckia Hirta "Sahara"
Scabiosa "Fata Morgana"
Scabiosa Ochroleuca
Sweet Pea "Mrs Collier"
Thunbergia "African Sunset"

Any tips for autumn sowing for these will be very gratefully received.

I wouldn't sow Eschscholzias, Thunbergia or annual Helianthus in Autumn. Not sure about Calendula either, they're supposed to be hardy but mine have always looked best sown in spring

Molucella, Rudbeckia Sahara and Thumbergia are not hardy, so should be sown in Spring.
How can you lie there and think of England

  • Thanks for the tips 🙂 Wasn't sure which way to come down on the Rudbeckia as I've seen some videos of them being sown in autumn. I was mostly tempted because I have Rudbeckia Cherokee Sunset which isn't supposed to be hardy but survived over winter in a 1L pot in a mini greenhouse.
