Planting birch tree now

dilbydilby Posts: 78
Hi all - I’ve just had a birch tree delivered (8ft, in container). Was planning to plant it tonight but when studying up read that it might be too early? Should I keep it in the pot for a little longer or do you kind folks think it’s safe to plant? Based on gower South Wales.

  • It looks as if the West/South west is set for some rain in the next few days.  If you can prep your site beforehand, I would suggest you could certainly consider doing it now.  See what others think tho :)

you can plant from a container at any time if the soil is diggable(not flooded, frozen or like concrete). You'd need to water well at this time of year. I'd soak the pot for several hours, dig the hole, fill it with water and let it drain away several times. If it doesn't drain away don't plant. Loosen the roots a bit if it's pot bound
