Sparrows

I have an army of sparrows in my garden, and they have decimated my runner beans, peas and sweet peas.   Although I love having the birds which I feed regularly how can I stop them from eating my produce next year.

  • We have the same issue with pigeons. So any veg plants planted out are either netted or small sticks put in the ground at angles to stop their flight path. The sticks do work but then you have to remember that they are there so you don't get stabbed later on when you are harvesting the produce....as I always am doing!
  • Wasn't much to harvest the little blighters eat the flowers before they could set and the peas were attacked as soon as they began to grow.  Never saw a flower on them.
  • I have loads of Sparrows, but i also have 2 or 3 Sparrow Hawks that keeps things in balance. Nature usually finds a way, so hopefully Sparrow Hawks start visiting your garden.
