There is some evidence that grounds can help acidify the soil a little (potentially useful of you have very alkaline soil) and dried tealeaves in particular has several demonstrable benefits for roses. Neither will do plants any harm unless you are dumping commercial quantities on a daily basis, perhaps. Either that or adding to compost is far better than swilling it down the sink that’s for sure!

All our compostables go into a ceramic jar with a lid that sits by the sink. When it's full, it goes out onto the compost heap (except on a cold rainy night, then it can wait).
I put coffee grounds into a box with a nice tight fitting lid, along with peelings etc and it goes outside to the compost daily. I wouldn’t have decaf in the house, so it’s not an issue but I did think it contained solvents and nasties from the decaffeination process. I could well be wrong though.
