Plus it will bung up your sink. No oil down the sink either, please.

    But why?
  • Why not?  It’s organic matter and contributes to the creation of rich dark soil if nothing else.

I love having an excuse to go out into the garden. Sometimes it takes me a while.

I also add them to the compost, though as mentioned before I accumulate them in the kitchen until the container is full.

I empty the tea bags into the kitchen compost caddy when I empty the teapot. They've usually cooled down enough to squeeze out and tear open by then.

There is some evidence that grounds can help acidify the soil a little (potentially useful of you have very alkaline soil) and dried tealeaves in particular has several demonstrable benefits for roses. Neither will do plants any harm unless you are dumping commercial quantities on a daily basis, perhaps. Either that or adding to compost is far better than swilling it down the sink that’s for sure!

  • All our compostables go into a ceramic jar with a lid that sits by the sink. When it's full, it goes out onto the compost heap (except on a cold rainy night, then it can wait).

I put coffee grounds into a box with a nice tight fitting lid, along with peelings etc and it goes outside to the compost daily.
I wouldn’t have decaf in the house, so it’s not an issue but I did think it contained solvents and nasties from the decaffeination process.  I could well be wrong though.
