Euonymus Green Spire leaf drop!

Hi all, we went on holiday and stayed a little longer than expected and on our return our euonymus had dropped it's leaves... so sad! :(

Before leaving I noticed it may have some kind of disease, perhaps scale infestation? (see 2nd pic). Does anyone know if it will ever survive now? Or what to do if it may still have life in it?

Thanks in advance

Mine get it every year -

They come back in the spring full of vigour, but by mid-summer they're usually covered in them.
Mine is a small hedge and out of the way, so it's not too bothersome for me, just unsightly.

  • Our Green Spire don't usually suffer much if any infestation, and it doesn't disfigure the plants in any noticeable way. We find it's much worse on our Euonymus Bravo.

I'd say the defoliation is more likely due to lack of water and heat. That's a very small trough for so many thirsty plants. Given our hot/dry Summer, I would have watered that every day to keep the plants healthy. Pete.8 is right, they should bounce back, as long as they are kept well watered now, and given a bit of feed every week.
  • Thanks folks, will stick with them. What would recommend for feed?
  • I would agree with @KeenOnGreen Iv'e never had a problem with Green Spire and scale insect. I wonder if the plants are stressed due to lack of water and nutrients. Plants under stress are more likely to be affected.
