Plant ID Please

Hi, dug this up in error in a new garden, not sure what it is but rescued it. It needed a bit of a severe prune to help it recover.
Anyone any ideas please?

Is it golden rod? Can’t quite see
  • Yes, sorry, not the best picture but I struggled to get a good one.
    Is this any better?
Have to admit that resorting to images on Google, Verbena looks closest I think.
    Thanks for the help though.

Weed.  Look it up in a wild flower book/google.  Beware those seed heads, they look ready to spread every where.  Quick.quick.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

  • I think it is Canadian Fleabane.  I had a particularly fancy one :)

I think you're right. In the bin with it I think, its not particularly attractive and apparently can be very invasive.
    Thanks all for the advice.
