Anyone any idea as to what this plant is, please. Asking for a friend ... it's growing in 
Cornwall.

    I think that’s Melianthus major. The Honey bush. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    Lovely plant, although not fully hardy, or at least with me.

    You could be lucky in Cornwall. It's hardy for me on the Isle of Wight. It spreads like mad so you could probably take up a piece to over winter indoors, to be safe.
