Dividing yucca gloriosa Variegata

This plant is (I think) yucca gloriosa variegata. It used to do very well in a large pot, but not so much recently, so I have gone to divide it. It’s sort of split into 5 little plants on top, but having shaken the soil off, it’s a mass of tubers and I’m not sure what to do. 
If I gently pull the top bit to try and divide it, I’m not sure tubers will come attached. What’s the best thing to do? I can’t really put it in a bigger pot, though I can renew soil and pit it back in the same pot if necessary.

    What I would do (not sure if correctly but here goes) is get rid of as much soil as possible, so you can see what you're doing. Pry apart and detangle the roots. If they're conjoined or tricky to disentangle, cut them. Pot up each section with its own piece of root. You can probably trim up the root a bit, I don't think they will need masses of root. Keep them in a sheltered shady spot.

    Ok. what about any leftover tubers? Are they viable as plants or no?

    We have one ...no idea what it is as we have had growing for over 20 years. It always wants to grow over the path so these ones were dug up and planted elsewhere. One has now flowered.

    If you have left over roots you could try planting them with the top just under the surface (remember which end is the top end!) They may produce new growth. Personally I'd do this in an out of the way part of the garden rather than in pots, and view any successful plants as a bonus. Because it might take a long while and might not be successful.

    Well it didn’t go brilliantly, I had to resort to the tree saw. I ended up with 4 small plants with a small bit of tuber each, and masses of tubers left over. I have potted the tubers up in bunches. I do hope my 4 little yuccas survive.
