    If you look at the beautiful exuberant gardens designed by Tom Stuart Smith, you will see he often uses Yew, or Beech pillars, amongst very loose planting. IMO they work fabulously together.

    I'm voting for leaving them.  They're easy to keep tidy IF you think, in time, they're getting too big
