Identification of plant growing from home compost spread as mulch

Could anyone identify this plant please.  It has grown from home made compost spread as a mulch in the spring.  Since taking a photograph it has developed two bright yellow flowers.

    Some sort of squash? melon?
    Devon.
  • Thank you. Both are a possibility.  Will I get fruit - is it worth me persevering?

I'd say it's too late now, I'd stick it back into the compost bin

I've got one of those in my front garden ... I've left it to see what happens ...

Another proof you can grow plants from seed in your own compost.
leave it,  nothing lost,  if it doesn’t fruit you’ll at least have a bigger plant to put in the compost bin.  Win..Win.

  • Thank you all. I shall leave it in situ and see what happens…..maybe we will get an Indian Summer and I’ll be eating home grown melons!!
  • Cross pollinate the M&F flowers and see what happens.
I had to laugh the other day, we've got a tomato plant growing by the side of our old septic tank   :D
