Cannot put a name to this plant

This is a hardy, clump-forming, perennial bulb/tuber. The whole plant is 30ins in height with long narrow strap-like leaves and pink-tinged white flowers 2½ins across. The photos were taken today. Any guesses?

Agreed. Used to be known as Schizostylis (coccinea?).
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • Yes yes - memory is coming back now. It's listed in my plant book by its former name of
Schizostylis, and our variety is  'Pink Princess'. The common name (for other members) is Kaffir Lily, which actually belongs to the Iris family.  Well done, and so fast too!!  :)

Very easy to grow from seed,  I’ve got some lovely red ones.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Lyn:  I wouldn't have thought of growing them from seed, but how long would they take to reach flowering size?  Chilternseeds says "Sow thinly as seedlings will need space to grow on undisturbed for their 1st year." and "Grow on under glass allowing bulbs to form."
