  Really? The green colour stumped me. Did I not plant the original bulb deep enough to begin with that's why they grew above ground. I've not had this happen before.

  The link I posted shows you … they grow in the leaf axils and drop to the ground. 
  

  
  

  It’s what some lilies do if the conditions are right. Some other plants do it too. Some alliums produce bulbils from the flower head as if they were seeds.
