Help with Camellia tree

My Camellia leaves have from brown and fallen off. Is the tree dead, or can it be revived? I noticed some new leaves growing so had some hope.

any advise would be much appreciated.

thanks

  • It looks like drought and heat stroke.
Give it lots of rainwater if you have it. Do not feed until new leaves appear, which could be some time. Do not be surprised if you have no flowers next year.
If your camellia is in a pot you could stand the pot in a large container of water and leave to soak at least overnight, then repeat every 4 or 5 days until new leaves begin to appear.
  • Thanks for your help. I’m assuming normal tap water is fine ?

it’s actually quite a big tree and is planted into the ground.

So many plants have suffered this year that it's hard to know what will come through and patience will be required. A chap on the BBC said that it is better if a tree sheds its leaves than if they go brown but don't drop. Dropping the leaves is a form of self defence but brown ones hanging on may mean death. I think wait and see is best. Don't feed it, let it rest.
