I have no idea how you can defend him, have you not seen how rude he has been to posters??

One of the cruellest posts I have ever read on this forum was by you @punkdoc
I still regret not calling you out on it but it was a long time ago and we move on don't we?

You are both as bad as each other if you continue this and you will both lose the respect of those of us who have tried to make this a thread to be enjoyed.
Not just by the regular few, but by the thousands of people who read only.
Grow up the pair of you.

I am not defending anyone, but knowing how this scenario works, probably better than @MikeOxgreen does as a newer member, I was calling on him to please not be goaded, be the better person and leave it be.

Good try @Uff but you can see the problem from the above post.

Be the bigger man @MikeOxgreen and leave it?
I will, but why should we put up with these polluting trolls spoiling threads? They have made zero useful input.
How would you would feel if I followed you around making snide remarks and having your posts removed?
Sit down and think about it.

I have thought about it a lot, as I have watched it happen time and time again. All it takes is to ignore it then the person looks rather silly for all to read. I've seen this successfully happen on another thread.
Hard I know but let it go and ignore it. Let's get this thread back on track before we lose it and possibly your contributions to the forum along with it.

To get back on track, what do people think about the addition of urine to a heap, as a compost accelerator?

We used it occasionally @punkdoc (OH's contributions!) and it's effective but has its downsides especially if stored too long before use. Bit of a pong. We sometimes added it in winter when grass wasn't available but we gradually stopped using it in compost as it wasn't worth the faff.

Tried it, can't in all honesty say it made any difference.

I haven't tried it. My compost area is in view of the street so direct application wouldn't be a good idea even if I had the equipment for it, and I can't be bothered with collecting. It's enough faff when the doctor wants a sample.

It's certainly something we've used previously, when we had a larger composting set up.  We didn't 'store' urine ... I just occasionally popped a bucket in the downstairs loo for OH to use then take and empty onto the compost heap.

We certainly made good compost this way ... using a three bay system we used the urine on the second heap, and again when turning that into the third bay which was then covered and left for a few months.  the third heap became active quite quickly and produced fine dark crumbly compost.

I've a feeling that Bob Flowerdew who lives 'down the road a way' favours a more direct application style, but his place is a bit more isolated than ours.
