What’s wrong with my topiary box?

  • @HeyJude , if the caterpillars are young , they are hard to see ( tiny pale green then mature into the stripy black and green things you generally see pictures of). That webbing and tiny "egg like things" are in fact webbing the caterpillar spins to protect itself while it feeds , the egg like things are caterpillar frass ( poo). It's possible they have moved on , and if you water it well am sure you will get decent growth - it does recover but if you have "had" caterpillars then it will be an ongoing battle of vigilance in the future -- for what it is worth this year a lot worse than last ( in our area anyway ) for box moth. Xentari is expensive , but it does work ( and if that is your only plant then probably worth "sharing" cost with neighbours who also have box topiary. The non-organic bugclear ( other brands available)  systemic sprays also work  if you are so inclined ( I do not have any separate specimens so I do not use those non-specific pesticides because of other wildlife). Contact sprays ( pyrethrin based) are also not pest specific but don't work so well because the webbing "shields" the culprit
Kindness is always the right choice.
